july 1968, a photo by CapricornOneVintage on Flickr.

Well, it is to me anyway...I finally hit 100,00 views on flickr today! I was so excited, I took a screen shot:

I think it's a good time to telly you I added a bunch of new scans. There's everything from tintypes to cookbooks to astrological charts of random famous people and also some old Kodak photos like the one of the girl and her grandparents at the top of the post.

Oh Cute!

Saw this Schilling Fancy Decors bottle at the flea market today. The color is wonderful, the font is great and the illustration of that girl is adorable! Why can't labels be like this anymore? *sigh*

Lil' Softy

So I got off my butt and went thrift shopping this weekend.....oh thrifts how I missed you! I managed to find some cool items to buy, one of which is right here, a 1970s Lil' Softy advertising doll still in her package. She is currently for sale in my Etsy store.

For those of you who are not familliar with Lil' Softy's magic, or just need a refresher course, here is a youtube video I found. I totally remembered this from my childhood (yes, I'm old...shut up!), but I guess I must have blocked out her creepy Carol Channing like voice. (Feel free to ignore the Dairy Queen commercial that comes after, though it's sort of interesting to watch in it's own weird way.)

I'm all for upcycling or reusing vintage items when it's appropriate, but this just seems like wanton destruction........

Hello There....

OMG! I see I haven't updated this blog for 5 MONTHS. yikes! where does the time go? I'm sorry little blog, I'll try to do better by's just that tumblr came calling and then google+ (so far I've managed to stay away from pinterest, but I don't know for how long) and also I've been busy listing on etsy, running to the post office, scanning pix and sometimes posting them on flickr, updating my facebook page and twitter once in a while. With all that, plus dealing with daily medication makes me sleepy (but I am in remission currently, yeah!) and some of the astrological aspects of the last few months have been less than pleasant....I'll admit it, sometimes I just get overwhelmed and then I become neglectful.....*sigh*

Anyway, I hope all of you are happy, healthy and doing well. Since it's too late to wish you a nice Summer, I'll wish you a nice Fall instead.........

What's Up?

Happy egg hunting, candy scarfing and cake eating day! Hope you are all having a nice spring as well. Springtime means sales, and currently there is an awesome one going on! Be sure to check out the VMTEAM + VETT= Spring Fling promo. Two of my favorite teams on etsy (and yes, i may be partial since i'm a member of both) are working in tandem to bring you some great deals on vintage. Just go to etsy and type 'vtgspring' into the search bar and see what you can't live without (Don't take too long, tho. The sale ends on May 2nd) ♥

PS: There are new scans on flickr and now CapricornOneVintage has a tumblr account too!

When I was going through some of those vintage mags for scanning, I came across an ad featuring my childhood nemisis: Salmon Loaf!
Oh I can remember it plain as day, but I never thought I'd be forced to look at it ever again. This is just like my Great Aunt Hilda used to make, only without the lemons.
Not only did Aunt Hilda live in a time warp, she cooked in a time warp as well. I call it depression era cooking...all sorts of bits and scraps added to things, some leftover and some not. Odd combinations....
She would make stuff like cream of wheat with EGG...oh yuck. I'd always refuse that one, and she would get so mad at me. Sometimes she would put the egg in it and then some CHERRY PIE FILLING or CAKE MIX. I'm not even joking. She was famous for cooking steak and vegetables together in a blackened frying pan on the stovetop. They would come out so rubbery and set off the smoke alarm every time! By far the grossest thing she ever cooked was the salmon loaf.......I used to dread Fridays because being the good Catholic she was, it was fish day...and more often than not that meant salmon loaf. The recipe calls for bread crumbs, but I know she used saltine crackers sometimes. Then it would be sickningly soggy. I don't want to think about what else she might have thrown in there... I used to ask my friends if they had ever eaten salmon loaf and NONE of them had, they hadn't even heard of it. Have you? I wish I hadn't. Well, I would try hard to choke it down and mostly I succeeded until this one time. The last time I ever ate salmon loaf I was about 9 years old. I ate the loaf and then I began to feel woozy. Little did I know I was about to be hit with the worst stomach flu of my young life. I mean I thought I was going to die my stomach hurt so bad. You know, salmon loaf has a hard time sitting well in a healthy stomach, so this time it didn't stand a chance. I won't gross you out with the details, but let's just say that to this day I cannot stand to smell, let alone eat salmon. In fact, I get the jitters just looking at that picture......

New vintage ad scans on Flickr

I've just posted quite a few vintage ads on flickr. My magazine stashing tendencies are out of control and I must get rid of some. I'm taking apart and scanning stuff out of the ones not worth keeping. It's a work in progress, there are so many. I will be selling some of the better magazines in my Etsy and Artfire stores soon. I'll keep you posted.....

Monkees scans on Flickr

Way back in July I did manage to put up scans of some of my Monkees stuff.....(and some other 60s pop culture stuff too)
go check them out & give them some love ♥

Happy 2011...!!!

Hmmmm...well, I'm only 10 days late with that greeting and that's better than I have been in quite some time!
I'm back and I hope to stay healthy enough to hang around for awhile. My crohn's disease was so bad last fall that I ended up having 'suprise!' surgery. I came out of it minus a just over a foot of intestines and my appendix.
Now i feel pretty great! And the best part is, no more hella expensive self-injectable (yikes) meds that don't work (and give me arthritis and make me tired/cranky). I'm just on a maintenence dose of Imuran, and I'll cross my fingers that I stay out of the hospital and away from another surgery for a long long time!
Now I am looking and seeing where I'm completely behind on things, and I'm starting to work on fixing it.
I'm hoping that by the end of the month I will have made some headway. I'll get back to listing in my Etsy and Artfire shops, and then I'll be working on my website.
So, anyways, Happy New Year!! Hope It's a good one for you and yours. :)
